Rumble in the Bronx: 9 stars out of 10 Starring: Jackie Chan Made in 1995, this was what most of today’s younger Chan fans got hooked on. The movie is based in a rough neighborhood in New York where a young man named Keung (Chan) helps to get a friend of his uncle’s get settled in her new market in the Bronx. Trouble starts when a group of toughs come into the store and start arrogantly causing trouble and stealing. Keung sees this and fights the entire gang (after all the films I’ve seen, this is still the best setup there is! I have the entire scene committed to memory, word for word, move for move.) The aftermath sees the gang trying to get revenge on Keung and his friends. Things get further stirred up when he gets tangled up with a group of high class jewel thieves. I love this movie, it is one of my absolute favorites! The fighting is excellent, and the stunts are extremely impressive. The only pitfall is that there are some slightly slower parts. It was shot downtown in Vancouver, I have visited the place that it was shot, but unfortunately, nothing was recognizable. I SUGGEST YOU WATCH FOR: In this film, watch for the jump from building to building, true Chan style! Also, watch for the superman pushups (in handstand) and try them yourself. THE BEST FIGHT: There is an excellent fight in the hideout of the gang, however, the convenience store scene is my favorite in this movie, he flawlessly defeats 7 or so opponents at light speed without a scratch. The fight itself is quite short, but well choreographed and fast! |
