Police Story

Police story: (AKA Jackie Chan’s Police Force) 7.3 out of 10

Starring: Jackie Chan

This is the fist installment of a character that went on for a series of four films, the latter two of which were released under the name Supercop in America. Officer Chan (wow they must have had a think tank for that one) is a screwloose cop that operates on his own agenda. Jackie pursues a crook through a shantytown in a car (destroying the town but good) and chases him onto a bus. Jackie ends up being losing his case in court and the criminal goes free. He chases this criminal until a showdown in the mall at the end.

This movie wasn’t bad, I’ve seen it a couple of times. There is some worthwhile fighting in it, but the plot is generally uninteresting. The girlfriend character is really whiny and annoying, unfortunately showing up again in the sequel.

I SUGGEST YOU WATCH FOR: The big stunt at the end, Jackie jumps from a balcony onto a long chandelier and slides to the bottom, breaking all the lights on the way down. Apparently, he cut his hands up pretty good doing this stunt as well as some other injuries, but the outcome is pretty cool.

THE BEST FIGHT: The fight at the end… no question. It’s a long scene in the mall where Jackie faces against a group of foes. You would not believe how much glass gets broken in this scene, it is, bar none the most glass I’ve seen get smashed in any movie. To boot, the glass that they used looks real when it breaks because it is double the usual width of movie glass for effect. Which, also made it hard to break and more dangerous.
